Helicopter Training - Sargent's major success story
FAST Helicopters were delighted to hear recently from former student Paul Sargent who is now a First Officer flying AS332L2 Super Puma helicopters with CHC Scotia in Scotland.
Paul, pictured right, completed his Commercial Pilot's Licence course at FAST Helicopters' Shoreham base and his Multi Engine Instrument Rating at our Thruxton base.
Here's how Paul reached his goal:-
"I currently fly for CHC Scotia based in Aberdeen on the AS332L2 Super Puma, which serves the Central and Northern North Sea sectors including the East Shetland Basin. |

After obtaining my PPL (aged 18) in 2000, studying for my degree and travelling took priority. After working as a beach lifeguard and windsurfing instructor abroad for a few years, I took the decision to go for my CPL. In 2005, I ventured across the pond to do some hour building for a Los Angeles radio station flying a Bell Jet Ranger and also my FAA fixed wing CPL. I came back to the UK and went straight to Oxford Aviation Training to study for the gruelling ATPL Exams. After a nervous few months, they were finally out of the way and it was down to FAST Helicopters at Shoreham for my CPL course. On completion of my CPL it was back to lifeguarding for me in Sussex for the summer to help fund the IR course. With a lot of help from my parents, the finances were sorted and I started my IR course with Captain Steve Judd at FAST Helicopters' other base at Thruxton. Another nervous few weeks in the sim and on the Twin Squirrel ensued, and I saw myself with the IR stamped in my licence.
A few phone calls and CV’s later, CHC invited me for interview. To my amazement – I passed the psychometric tests and sim ride and soon found myself in Norway and France for 9 weeks doing my AS332L2 type rating. All of the hard work and sleepless nights finally paid off and I made it onto the line last month and love every minute of it (maybe not the weather and turbulence but you can't have it all!)"
From an introductory trial lesson to a Commercial Pilot's Licence with Multi Engine Instrument Rating,
FAST Helicopters will help you reach your goal.
